EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Advanced Metrology – Creating the Next Generation of Measurement Technology

The EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Advanced Metrology is hosted and lead by the Centre for Precision Technologies (CPT), a large multi-disciplinary research group based within the School of Computing and Engineering at the University of Huddersfield.

The Centre brings together a consortium of leading research and development organisations and global companies from the aerospace, automotive, instrumentation, machine-tools and optics sectors including the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), Renishaw plc, Rolls-Royce plc and Taylor Hobson Ltd.

The main aim of the Centre is to integrate measurement into manufacturing processes by developing new methods, technologies and capabilities.

Linking measurement and production together – the ‘factory on the machine’ concept – will create a single ‘in-line’ manufacturing/metrology process resulting in substantial benefits for the manufacturing sector including improved quality of high-value, precision engineered components and greater cost savings.
